Preparations for the third annual Knit Fit Knit-a-thon are underway! This year’s event will be held on February 20th, 2010, from 10 am to 5 pm (with a storm date of February 27th) at the McConnell Library in Sydney, and at the Baddeck Library in Baddeck. Knitters and crochet afficianados of all stripes, new or experienced, are invited to participate. Come for all or part of the day, start a project or bring one to finish. All library branches are also accepting donations of yarn, needles, finished items, or funds towards the Knit-a-thon. So print a Pledge Form, pick up the knitting needles and crochet hooks, and get ready for another great day!
Donated knitted or crocheted items and products of the knit-a-thon in Sydney will be given to Every Women’s Centre, a charity that provides free clothes to families in need in Cape Breton County. Goods donated and created in Baddeck will be donated to the Victoria County branches of the NS Dept of Community Services where they will be made available to clients in need.
Participants are asked to have friends and family sponsor them, with all pledges going to support Children’s Literacy programs at Cape Breton Regional Library branches throughout the region. These include the Summer Reading Program, Storytime programs for different age groups, and teen programs.
